Put your masks on

Simple crochet mask(s)

Deep in the carnival season there are two events for EE which require some dressing up. The first was yesterday and the big one is coming next week. I did not want to spoil the excitement of the main event by dressing up twice, so I just crocheted a simple red mask for yesterday. I have found a great mask pattern (on goodknits by Lisa) on Wednesday when I was looking for ideas on how to make this Thursday special. The black one is for next week, shh...

The black is the same pattern as Lisa's, but on the red I added an extra row of SC, plus a black SC on the top. Instead of the elastic piece I attached two chain cords.

Lisa's mask pattern:
ch 21, sl st into first ch (to make a loop); ch 23, sl st into 21st ch from hook (to make second loop) = 2 loops connected by 2 chains;
Rnd 1: ch 1, SC into next 2 chs, 30 SC into the loop; SC into the back of the center 2 chs, 30 SC in next loop (DO NOT JOIN);
Rnd 2: SC2tog across the center 2 sts, *[HDC in next 5 sts, DC in next 4 sts, HDC in next 5 sts], 2 DC in each of the next 2 sts, repeat [*], SC2tog across center 2 sts; Rep [*], sl st into first st.
